Statement on

Covid-19

Our COVID-19 Policy

At Providence, we appreciate the current pandemic has left many wondering how they can handle their estates and move forward with planning for the future, not least because there may well be legal documents that people require as a direct result of the current crisis.

We want to reassure you that our friendly legal team are here to assist you during this time to ensure your concerns are answered.

As such, we have provided guidance on some legal areas which have been affected as a result of COVID19.

Importantly, our offices are remaining open through the lockdown period,  with our team on hand to take calls and answer questions remotely where we can.

Wills

The centrepiece of Estate Planning, they are fundamental in setting out what you want to happen following your death. While it is not a conversation many people like to give much thought to, there has never mean a more crucial time to write or amend your Will.

Coronavirus has impacted how people can witness and sign documents, With strict measures of staying at home in place, guidance has been drawn up to help people.

It is possible to have your Will signed if you are living with someone who is not a family member or beneficiary e.g. a flat mate. However, the government are allowing people to meet up in an outdoor space for this purpose, or failing that, they are also allowing the use of video calling.

Similarly, we have sadly had to stop our home visits, and now have video call and telephone facilities working overtime.

Lasting Power of Attorney

A good Estate Plan is more than just a Will. A Lasting Power of Attorney is fundamental in giving you the ability to take control of your loved ones welfare once they no longer have the capacity to do so themselves.

We have all seen the horror stories on the news of care homes and other bodies taking control of the welfare of individuals during the pandemic. This can be prevented by setting up a Lasting Power of Attorney.

At Providence, we have made this simple by gathering all the information we need from you over the phone. We then issue the documents for you to sign in sanitized hard board envelopes, with tracked postage.
